Transportation
Many Seniors in our community do not have access to basic needs such as medical care or food. Local transportation (door-through-door) within our service area: Santa Maria Valley, Lompoc Valley, and Santa Ynez Valley. A volunteer will drive a client to local medical, social, or service appointments by picking them up from where they live, escort them into the appointment location, and then return them to their home (door-through-door). For example, clients may have a doctor’s appointment, may want to meet friends for lunch, go to church, or need the services of a lawyer, tax accountant, or other services. Volunteers drive within our local areas. We are in urgent need of drivers. If you are interested in volunteering or need services please call (805) 925 8000 or email [email protected] Volunteer Drivers Are A Life-Changing Gift Mileage Reimbursement .55/mile Imagine living alone, not being able to drive and not being able to access public transportation. CPC - Butch & ShirleyCommunity Partners in Caring is looking for Volunteer Drivers that will provide 1:1 transportation for homebound seniors living in our community. The hours are flexible: volunteer two hours per month or two hours per week any time/day of the week. We also provide mileage reimbursement at a rate of .55 cents per mile. This rate is effective June 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2020 or 30 days after notification of reduced state funding. Most of the seniors we serve are frail, but not disabled; they live alone, do not have family/friends to help, are not ADA eligible and cannot access public transportation. Social Isolation
Loneliness & social isolation has been linked to numerous detrimental health effects in older adults-increased falls, illness, dementia, and rehospitalization. By the simple act of staying in touch, or a friendly visit to keep our elderly individuals' company it can help them feel reassured that there is someone there that is looking out for them. Activities depend on the client. For example, some clients like to play cards or board games, others like to sit and talk. Telephone Reassurance
A volunteer will call a client and engage them in a conversation for 10-15 minutes. This helps our clients know that there is someone looking out for them, and that they have people within their community that care. For some of our clients, this will be the highlight of their day. LA VIDA importa, en cada etapa
Hay muchas citas sobre el envejecimiento. Muchos están destinados a levantarnos el ánimo, para recordarnos que ganamos valor a medida que envejecemos, no al revés.
